Vancouver is blessed with a classic, no-frills ballpark that seems to suit the fans just fine. For hardcore baseball fans, Nat Bailey is a real treat. Not only do you get a classic ballpark, but you also get a great atmosphere.

Capilano Stadium, built in 1951 in Vancouver’s Queen Elizabeth Park, was home to the Vancouver Capilanos and later the Vancouver Mounties of the AAA Pacific Coast League until 1969. With the return of the PCL in 1978 the stadium was renamed Nat Bailey Stadium in honour of the Vancouver restaurateur Nat Bailey and his efforts to promote baseball in Vancouver. The Vancouver Canadians of the Pacific Coast League played at the Nat until 1999 and in 2000, the Oakland Athletics moved their Northwest League team to Vancouver. Carrying on the tradition they called them the Canadians.
When the 2010 Winter Olympics were awarded to Vancouver, many were concerned that Nat Bailey Stadium would be demolished to make way for the new Olympic curling venue. In the summer of 2003, a few concerned citizens with a passion for Nat Bailey Stadium, met to discuss the status of the situation and see what could be done on a local level to preserve and refurbish the facility. The Friends of Nat Bailey Stadium was formed with the goal of preserving the Nat by obtaining Historical Landmark status for the stadium. To learn more visit www.friendsofnatbaileystadium.com
